Frequently Asked Questions

I do not take insurance. If you have an insurance plan which allows you to seek services with out-of-network providers, I would be happy to provide you with the paperwork you would need to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

I encourage parents to emphasize a few things when talking to their child about the evaluation. First, it’s a good idea to normalize the process. Many children undergo evaluations, in one form or another. Second, make sure your child knows that the overarching goal of the evaluation is simply to understand them and, ultimately, to provide assistance for their struggles. I discourage parents from telling their child that they will be playing games or doing puzzles with me. Testing is hard work. However, many of the children I work with find some of the tests and activities novel and engaging.

  • Try your best to get or facilitate your child getting a good night’s sleep the night before testing day.
  • Eat breakfast!
  • You or your child should bring a water bottle and snacks to sustain energy throughout the day.
  • Please remember to bring your completed intake forms to the session, if you have not already submitted them.
  • If you are paying out of pocket for the evaluation, please bring half of your total estimated payment to the first testing session.
  • When you bring your child to their testing appointment, Dr. DePaul will check in briefly with you about a few administrative items.
  • After this check-in, your child and I will work together. If your child makes a smooth transition to working with Dr. DePaul and they feel comfortable with you leaving, you are free to go and come back to pick-up your child at the end of the day.
    • If you’d like to get some work done in the Natick Center area, the Natick Library is located a short walk from Dr. DePaul’s office at 14 East Central St.
    • The Bagel Table and Sweetwater Cafe have free wifi and are both located a short walk from Dr. DePaul’s office.

This decision is made on a case-by-case basis, depending on the specific child and the reason for the evaluation.

There is ample, metered two-hour parking around the building. There are also two parking areas located very near the office that allow you to pay with a credit card at a kiosk and stay for up to four hours. These are located on Summer St., across the street and slightly west of 2 Summer St., and on Hayes Street, between the Police Station and St. Patrick’s Church. Here is a link to parking locations, time limits and rates in downtown Natick with 4 hour locations designated in blue.

At the feedback meeting, Dr. DePaul will explain the major findings of the evaluation and make recommendations for treatment, school interventions and/or accommodations, and behavioral strategies to try at home. Overall, Dr. DePaul will focus on the “big picture” or the broad conclusions of the evaluation, how the data supports these conclusions, and, finally, what it all means for you and/or your child. Sometimes this wide-ranging conversation requires two sessions.

If my evaluation report will be discussed at your child’s IEP meeting, I’d be happy to attend the meeting so that I can present my findings and answer any questions that the student support team may have. I would charge an hourly rate for my attendance and travel time.
