Billing Policies Neuropsychological and Psychological Evaluations

If the evaluation is not being billed to your insurance, a flat fee will be negotiated for the evaluation at the time of the diagnostic interview. Please keep in mind that the evaluation fee includes one or two diagnostic interviews, test administration and scoring, test analysis and interpretation, record review, report writing and one feedback session. If a supplemental feedback session is added, there will be an additional charge.

  • Half of the fee will be due at the first (or only, in some cases) testing session. The remainder will be due at the feedback session, which typically occurs roughly one month after testing is complete and/or all data are gathered. If the fee is not paid at the time of the feedback session, Jillian DePaul, Ph.D. reserves the right to withhold the report until the balance is paid in full.
  • Fees may be paid in cash or personal checks. Credit card payments are not accepted.

Insurance providers may be billed directly for evaluations. In these cases, Jillian DePaul, Ph.D. offers a courtesy services of pre-verifying your benefits and reviewing them with you prior to or at our first meeting.

  • There are several important aspects of your insurance plan’s coverage for testing. (1) Your insurance plan may require an authorization for testing. If this is the case, Dr. DePaul will apply for authorization after the diagnostic interview, once relevant clinical data has been gathered. (2) You may have a copayment for the diagnostic interview, testing sessions (which typically include both neuropsychological and psychological testing), and the feedback. (3) Testing services may be subject to your deductible, if your plan includes a deductible. In these cases, you are responsible for understanding if your deductible has been met at the time the services are performed. (4) Finally, you may require a referral from a primary in order to seek an evaluation.
  • Please be advised that academic or educational testing services are never covered by insurance companies. Academic/education testing is required in order to diagnose a learning disorder (in specific academic disciplines such as reading, writing and math). If you suspect that you have or your child has a specific learning disorder, Dr. DePaul will inform you about additional charges for academic/educational testing. We will only proceed with academic/educational testing if we have agreed on an “out-of-pocket” fee for these services.
  • Half of the “out of pocket” fee for academic testing will be due at the first testing session and the balance will be due at the feedback session.

Though Dr. DePaul offers the courtesy of pre-verifying your benefits and reviewing them with you, it is in your best interests to understand the coverage and limitations of your policy before entering into an evaluation or treatment. Please be advised that the patient/guardian is still responsible for any and all charges not paid by your insurance carrier. These charges may include deductibles, copayments, charges for academic/educational testing, or charges incurred if there is an insurance change in the middle of the evaluation or treatment. Finally, there have been extremely rare cases when the insurance company has withheld payment evaluation services for a lack of medical necessity when an authorization was not required. In these cases, the patient/guardian is responsible for any and all charges not paid by the insurance company.

  • Missed appointments: If you make an appointment and fail to keep it, I must charge you for the time that we had scheduled unless you have given me at least 24 hours notice so that I have the opportunity to rearrange my schedule. In the case of serious illness or a genuine emergency, the 24 hour requirement may be waived. Dr. DePaul charges $175 per hour for missed appointments.
